Jeff Roe Endorses Jason Kander for the 44th

It's often said you're judged by the company you keep. If that's true, voters who are undecided about whom to support in the race for the 44th District should take a look at The Source, the blog operated by Republican political consultant Jeff Roe. Roe has now publicly thrown his support behind Jason Kander in this race. http://thesource.typepad.com/thesource/.

Roe has made himself well-known to all of us for his sleazy tactics. Dan at Gone Mild -- a staunch supporter of Jason Kander -- said it best when he observed that "Roe has shown himself to be incompetent at anything other than self-promotion" and that he lacks any "discernible shred of morality." (May 25, 2007).

Amy Coffman has recently been the subject of negative Kander mailings in the 44th District which, in addition to making flatly false statements, accuse her of being nothing more than a greedy lobbyist, surrounded and supported by more greedy lobbyists -- surprising attacks from a candidate who has so often sought to have himself portrayed as running a campaign marked by a commitment to integrity and "leadership by example." These mailings and Roe's public support should weigh heavily on the minds of folks who support Kander, or are considering doing so.

I decided to support Amy Coffman in this race because I believe she brings the experience and commitment to public service to represent us with passion and effectiveness in Jefferson City. CCP members agreed, overwhelmingly giving her the organization's endorsement. I certainly don't need another reason to back her for the 44th -- but thanks to Jeff Roe for giving me one.

Shocker. Should have seen that coming. Roe and Kander? Not Good. Explains a lot.

not shocking - kander's a republican beneath a very shiny surface and the kanders' relationship w/ roe goes back a long way. just wait - it's going to get worse w/ them before it gets better

Is the Coffman camp really sinking to the level of misrepresenting the writings of Jeff Roe? You claim that "Roe has now publicly his support behind Jason Kander in this race."

Where did he do that? Go read the post, and you will see that nowhere does he endorse anyone. The closest he comes to endorsing anyone is in the final two paragraphs:

"While The Source does not know either of the candidates, we do know Diana Kander. She is a solid professional, sharp, focused and politically savvy. The Source is amazed at the slanderous and degrading e-mails that we have received regarding Diana. Spouses should be off limits and not drug through the mud.

Our prediction is that, armed with political know how, Jason Kander will win on Tuesday."

That is not an endorsement. That is a prediction, and a call for decency (albeit from a shocking source).

While I would never claim to understand what goes through the mind of someone like Mr. Roe, I'd say it is certainly plausible that he posted his comments in an attempt to stir up trouble among democrats, and perhaps even to give a boost to Ms. Coffman.

Most observers agree that Jason would be a much stronger leader in Jefferson City, so if Jeff Roe can help Amy, it serves his own devious purposes.

You're smart enough not to take Jeff Roe at face value, aren't you, Dale?

Thanks for weighing in Diana.

Trust me, I'm not Diana, Amy (or is it Cortney?).

Doesn't anyone have a name anymore?

What's with all of the Anonymice?

Don't live in the District and have not given a penny to either candidate, but have a long history of fighting Jeff Roe. That post was more like a slick way to try to push people to Mary Spence. But regardless, it was a prediction not an endorsement and was for a Roe blog fairly balanced. A little overreaction here by Dale.

Dale,
What is the false claim in the mailer?

Dale -

You just lost credibility. Facts, not spin, should govern how we conduct ourselves. Your post is disappointing.

Wow,

"While The Source does not know either of the candidates, we do know Diana Kander. She is a solid professional, sharp, focused and politically savvy."

So Jeff Roe is endorsing Diana and not Jason.

ok!!! Soooooooooo, Dan et al can legally claim it wasn't a Roe endorsement - what a bunch of sleazebags...

Dan? You're officially a sleazebag.

Too funny. These morons don't even realize that Roe didn't do the post.

Anonymous - you're officially a moron.

I just read the post - it was from "The Source". Many people have told me this is a web site authored by Jeff Roe. So if Jeff Roe didn't write the post, who did?

The post was unsigned. The blog is a republican blog, correct? So we have a group of republicans, which more than likely includes Jeff Roe, endorsing Kander's wife.

Interesting. You're partially correct, blowme, Jeff Roe didn't solely write it, he wrote it with a whole bunch of other republicans (note the use of "we" in the endorsement), - all of 'em endorse Diana Kander.

Note to the commenter who calls themself "whistleblowme" - your tactics and opinions have as much class as your screen name.

Once again, the only negative campaigning in this whole, ENTIRE race comes from you, Dan Ryan, and the Kanders. The Kanders? Endorsed by Jeff Roe. TKC had this to say tonight:

"Believe it or not, the endorsement of Kander on Jeff Roe's political blog The Source took a lot of people by surprise and swayed a lot opinion toward Coffman. It was literally the kiss of death from the Republican that local Dems despise..."

And a dirty race? TKC and I agree, it starts and ends with Dirty Di.

The last word in dirty politics is Kander.

Will the Dirty Diana and Dirty Dan of campaigning win in the 44th?

We'll see.

Jeff Roe's candidate of choice:Jason (and Diana) Kander.

Does that remind anyone of another first couple of KC politics that Dirty Dan has supported?

"Does that remind anyone of another first couple of KC politics that Dirty Dan has supported?"

Maybe but isn't accusing the opposition of being in bed with Jeff Roe a Beth Gottstein tactic? I see to remember her spreading that slander around among other lies.

Now I'm getting accused of dirty campaigning? Because Tony and Dale think they can not only believe what they read on The Source, but can embellish a prediction into an endorsement?

I hope that your name-calling and attacks on me somehow make you feel better about whatever is troubling you. I will sleep soundly this evening, knowing that I volunteered for a campaign that always took the high road, even when Jason was being attacked as a war criminal and called a sack of sh*t.
