The CCP Executive Committee met this evening. We are proud to make the following recommendations for endorsement:

Attorney General: Jeff Harris
Treasurer: Clint Zweifel
Lt. Gov.: Sam Page
44th State House: Amy Coffman
Prosecutor: Jim Kanatzer
Sheriff: John Bullard

All CCP voting members who have paid their dues are eligible to vote at our endorsement meeting on June 4th at Screenland (1656 Washington) at 6:00. Thank you for your enthusiastic support of your favorite Democratic candidate and the Committee for County Progress.

I wrote in Dan Ryan for village idiot.

Glad you didn't get a majority on that.

Dan you earned that title without a vote.

The Bullard vote was a travesty. A US Congressman had to tell Bullard to remove his name from an endorsement list because he had not endorsed Bullard.

He lied to us about endorsements, what will he lie to us about next? Why does this guy want to be sheriff so bad that he runs a campaign like that? This tells us Bullard does not have the integrity to be sheriff.

How anyone could attack Bullard's integrity is beyond me. As a husband, father of seven, and lifetime police officer, Bullard has always demonstrated integrity and character. This is why the screening committee voted overwhelmingly (5-1) to endorse Bullard. This is also why the CCP executive committee voted to endorse Bullard. This is also why the police and firefighter unions have lined up behind Bullard.

Listen, there are races that political spin and baseless attacks may work. But the sheriff's race isn't one of them. All but his opponents seem to agree that, on merit, Bullard is the best candidate.

So, "Hawk," cut the crap.

Congrats to the CCP for the nod to Jeff Harris, a life long Democrat. It would be sad for a great Democratic organization to endorse someone like Koster, who has been endorsed by John Ashcroft.

Koster has not been endorsed by Ashcroft. (Why do you even post this crap?) But Koster has been endorsed by the Fraternal Order of Police and the vast majority of labor unions.

I gotta tell you that I read Dan Ryan's original blog and -- while I may have chosen different words (being the diplomat I am) I don't see the big deal. Dan never said Beth was doing anything improper at all. She was trying to influence our votes -- as is her right and the right of all the others who lobbied in that race. It's not like Beth threatenened to have our trash service discontinued.

There are some serious bad feelings toward Mr. Kander -- which may or may not be justified. I don't know. (And, this time, ignorance will cause me to refrain from speculation -- but just this time.)

Regardless, it does not seem reasonable to transfer those hard feelings to Dan. And if occasionally chosing the wrong words or expressing our feelings too forcefully qualifies us as idiots, we are all a village OF idiots.

By the way, at least Beth and Dan have the courage to sign their names.
