Crime & Punishment; Koster gets FOP endorsement

Koster, who is running a campaign for Missouri Attorney General based on being an experienced prosecutor, picked up a key endorsement from the Fraternal Order of Police.

Koster was the Cass County Prosecutor before running for Missouri Senate. Voters love police officers - “I am honored to receive the endorsement from the state’s police,” said Koster. “Law enforcement is the top job of Missouri's Attorney General and I am proud to have the support of those who know law enforcement the best.” While prosecutor, Koster made national talk shows for his work in the John Robinson case (the guy who was killing women and putting them in barrels). I'm anti-death penalty, but if a guy ever deserved it, its John Robinson. Current KS AG, then Johnson County KS prosecutor, Paul Morrison, was the first to try Robinson (securing the death penalty). Koster entered a plea that allowed Robinson to get life in prison.

Crime and Punishment - general voters love it. Congrats on this important endorsement.

Why didn't Koster push for the death penalty? Didn't the Kansas Supreme Court knock down the Kansas death penalty?

Koster didn't insist upon death because 1) he isn't qualified or experienced enough to actually try a death penalty case 2) he was too busy with his political career to actually spend time trying cases 3) he refused to ask for help from Attorney General Nixon's capital prosecution team and 4) in return for Koster waiving the death penalty, Robinson agreed to plead guilty to two additional homicides which let Koster take credit for "solving" two additional homicides

Isn't John Robinson now doing web interviews?

I join in congratulating Koster. Let's keep in mind that the AG position is the state's highest law enforcement officer. Koster is the only Democratic candidate with prosecutorial experience. Missourians will not - and should not - elect someone who needs on-the-job-training. Kansas tried that once, and it got a fiasco named Phil Kline.

I was leaning Koster, and this endorsement seals the deal for me.

Hey anonymous 11:34 pm

The AG is not a criminal prosecutor. It is a civil law position. Koster's experience doesn't put him above Harris or Donnelly.

Didn't Jeff Harris work for Attorney General Jay Nixon (D)?

Didn't Chris Koster work for a Republican attorney general who spent a little time in the big house?

Anon 11:38-

The AG handles both civil and criminal appeals.

I read things like this, and I sincerely hope the person writing it is getting paid to do so.

2 out of 3 death penalty cases get reversed. Robinson’s conviction got reversed by the Kansas Supreme Court, then re-instated by the US Supreme Court. There are more appeals for Mr. Robinson. Robinson is one of the most horrible people on the planet and should be 6 feet under. Koster missed the chance to put him there.

When he was in jail the first time - before these murders - he manipulated the law librarian at the prison. When Robinson got out he befriended her and now she is dead.

Koster missed the chance to secure the death penalty because he is a wimp. Koster is not tough on crime, even though he did endorse Ashcroft over Carnahan.

Well - what did Chris Koster do when he worked for Attorney General William Webster (before Webster went to jail)?
