Koster Falsely Claims "Unanimous" Support

Large groups of thinking people rarely achieve unanimous agreement on anything - a fact we at the CCP are well aware of. That's why we were surprised when we received an email last week from the Koster campaign, claiming that "the unanimous support of Missouri’s law enforcement community for our candidacy was solidified when the St. Louis Police Officers’ Association endorsed me."

Why would the Koster campaign tell such an obvious lie, merely 5 weeks before the Democratic primary? A quick peak over at the website of our favorite candidate, Jeff Harris, reveals a huge list of important endorsements, including a great group of over 20 from the law enforcement community.

We are more proud than ever that we chose to endorse Jeff Harris, a real Democrat who tells the truth.

Koster - 38%
Donnelly - 32%
Harris - 30%

Like him or not, Koster will win.

No danger of Anonymous betting lunch on that!

What leads you to such a conclusion? His failure to raise statewide money? His past success as a Republican? His close connections to Ashcroft? His support of kicking kids off of health insurance? His poor showing in polls? His lack of democratic endorsements? His lack of experience in working for a non-criminal AG? His failure to try a mass-murderer? His flip-flopping on pro-choice?

He'll be lucky to beat Molly.

You can look at this objectively or you can inject your biases and hopes. Among objective political watchers, there is near complete agreement that Koster has this thing won. His opponents made a valiant effort, especially Harris with his unique, refreshing ads and use of the internet. But, come Novemeber, it will be Koster v. Gibbons. That is certainly a match-up in Koster's favor.

I understand many of you hate Koster or really, really like Harris or Donnelly. But absent a major scandal, this thing is over.

Also, Koster will formally pick up the Freedom endorsement tonight. Several weeks ago he was running third in votes within the organization, but surprisingly turned it around in a big way. IMO, that should seal it for Koster.

Anonymous - Sorry, pal, but the numbers I've seen don't support your claim - Koster is running really weak. Perhaps his dollars will help out in the final push, but I've seen nothing "objective" that supports your position. Can you point to anything, other than your anonymous claims?

Don't know about Freedom - I hope you're wrong, and suspect you are, but, regardless, they've not been exactly king-makers for the past decade or so, have they? Do you REALLY think a Freedom endorsement seals anything? They couldn't even get Brooks elected against a newbie.

8 months! Only 8 months!! I have written time and time again about the lack of experience Jeff Harris has vs Koster. I never had any idea how little experience Harris really had until now.

Did you know that when Jeff Harris served as an Assistant Attorney General it was ONLY FOR 8 MONTHS. This is all he talks about and he only held the job for 8 months.

For heavens sake, what kind of experience does he think he got in only 8 months. Did he take any vacation days? Did he catch a cold and stay home for a couple of days? Maybe he really only has 7 and a half months of experience as an Asst AG.

I have interns in my office that have 6 months stints. Was Harris really an just an intern? That might make a little more sense.

For crying out loud, who holds a job for 8 months and then brags about how much “experience” they earned. Most people don’t even put a job on their resume if they don’t stick with it for at least a year.

I think Paris Hilton was in jail for longer then Harris worked as an Asst AG.

Why would anyone ever elect a guy to be AG that could not even put forth an honest effort when he took a job as an Assistant AG. Why would anyone elect a guy that had such little interest in the AG’s office that he quit inside of a year of being hired. Harris accuses everyone else of being political opportunist and using this election as a stepping stone to the governor’s mansion. What did he do? Serving ONLY 8 MONTHS!! Was Harris padding his resume?

Harris’ slogan is “Real Democrat, Real Experience”. Real experience, my foot. I bet 99% of the people working currently as an Asst AG have more experience then Harris.

I must admit that when I have blogged in the past about Harris’ lack of experience, I had no idea he held the Asst AG job for such a short amount of time. Talk about exaggerating his experience. I thought when I would say “Koster has 10 times the experience of Harris”, I was using poetic license and that I was exaggerating a bit. Little did I realize that Koster really has 15 times the experience of Harris.

Think about it, Harris started his job. It probably took him 2 or 3 months to get to know everyone, figure out where the bathroom was and get worked into the equation. After that, he worked, at most, for 2 or 3 months before starting to think about quiting. He barely started, and he quit (we’ll give him the benefit of the doubt that he did not get pushed out). For God sake, isn’t it kinda normal to call somebody “the new guy” until they have been there at least a year? Harris was still “the new guy” when he quit And now he wants people to believe that in this short 8 MONTH stint he somehow generated some huge amount of experience….please.

Does Harris have any other experience we should know about now that the whole Asst AG thing is kinda not all that impressive.

Sorry Jeff, experience is not something you can not just say you have. You actually have to work at it. And just a little more advice, it typically takes more then 8 months to gain truly valuable experience (i.e. knowing more then just where the bathroom is)

I've lost track: How long did Jay serve as assistant AG or County Prosecutor? Or Ashcroft? Or Danforth?

AG is about POLICY.

In this case, the quarrel with Koster is with his history on POLICY: Voter disenfranchisement. Medicaid cuts. Enthusiastic support for W & Dick's criminal regime. Etc. until 11 months ago.

I welcome his conversion, but question its timing. Chris is a dynamic candidate. But is he ours?

What an unbelievable chain of comments here. If the Koster folks are so desperate they have to make up numbers and post them on blogs, that must mean the campaign is about to fold. The numbers posted here don't match what the Harris and Donnelly folks have, not even close.

Based on what I've seen, Koster is in a dead heat with no one and will likely not win unless he can buy a few hundred thousand votes. I bet Molly Williams comes out ahead of Koster!
