Donnelly to Challenge Harris?

Sources from the East (Columbia and St. Louis) are chattering about the possibility that St. Louis County State Representative Margaret Donnelly may be tossing her hat in the ring to seek the Democratic nomination for State Attorney General. By all accounts, Donnelly is a fine person and a traditional Democrat, and I'll be happy to support her for a different state-wide office. But I really don't think her legal experience (Her website reports, "[a]s an attorney in private practice, she has been appointed regularly by the courts to represent children as the guardian ad litem in custody matters") stacks up to Jeff Harris' experience in the Attorney General's office.

I also appreciate the fact that Jeff has demonstrated more leadership in Jefferson City (House Minority Leader), and the fact that he has been all over the state introducing himself and asking for support. We need an Attorney General candidate with relevant legal experience and appeal to that portion of Missouri which lies outside of the I-270 loop. I think Jeff Harris is the better candidate, and I hope that the rumors of Margaret Donnelly's challenge are mistaken.

(As noted above, "Posts here do not necessarily reflect the official position of the CCP." The CCP has not endorsed Jeff Harris or anyone else for the post of Missouri Attorney General.)

So what KC-area folks are going to run for AG? Our city suffers from a dearth of people in leadership posts in state-wide office and in the General Assembly leadership.

I hope that no KC-area folks are going to run for AG. Primaries are expensive, divisive, and usually unnecessary.

Jeff spent numerous years here in KC - he's one of our own.

Claire McCaskill holds a state-wide office.

Paul LeVota is #2 in the House, and will be #1 if we can get a Democratic majority.

I hate to disagree with Dan, but I hope lots of KC-area folk run for AG. I hope every single KC area Republican runs, and fights dirty for it.

I know both Jeff & Margaret very well. They are both OUTSTANDING leaders. It is very telling that someone wrote that they hope that "every single KC area Republican runs and fights dirty for it." In truth, that is the only way the Republicans will win this one, whether it is Jeff, Margaret, or a leader from Jackson County. This year our choices of candidates are far superior.

Rep Levota -

I'm the previous anonymous commenter, and what I was trying to say is that I hope the republicans have a big, nasty, ugly fight. I'm on board for Harris all the way. He's the best candidate, with all due respect to Ms. Donnelly. We need to win this race, and we can't afford to take a chance on a a family lawyer who has no support beyond 270.

Hey anonymous,
Got ya! I misunderstood your post. I completely agree with you! We HAVE TO win the AG race.
